American School Bus Council (ASBC) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Release Updated Infographics

(November 6, 2016) – The American School Bus Council (ASBC), through a cooperative agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), released five updated infographics at the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) Annual Summit and the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) Annual Conference in Kansas City, Missouri today.

Each school day, school buses transport 26 million students to and from school, the safest form of transportation available.  Knowing how important information such as this is to school children, their families and those who make local decisions affecting those families, the American School Bus Council and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration joined forces in 2011 to create an informational campaign called “Learn the Facts.”  The information conveyed easy-to-understand school transportation safety information.  Both entities are collaborating once again to update the campaign materials and enhance the products available to help convey the importance of safety in and around the yellow school bus.

The five infographics highlight the following information: the safety benefits of yellow school bus transportation; the most common safety attributes of the yellow school bus; the benefits a community can realize by promoting yellow school bus transportation; the effects on commuters and parents if yellow school bus transportation were not an option; and, the true costs incurred in communities without yellow school bus transportation.  These infographics have been updated with current statistics and data and are streamlined to make them even easier to understand.

ASBC will be speaking in greater detail about these new infographics at the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) Annual Summit at 2:15 p.m. CT on Sunday, November 6, 2016, as well as at the National Association for State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) Annual Meeting at 10:15 a.m CT on Monday, November 7.  In addition, ASBC will have a booth at the NAPT Trade Show on Tuesday, November 8 where infographic posters will be available.

All materials are available on www.schoolbusfacts.com for download as well.  Additional resources will be added as they become available.
