As you may know, on February 21st, ASBC held a national Love the Bus event at Sunderland Elementary in celebration of student transportation and school bus drivers. We were honored to have Anne Ferro, Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and Ron Medford, Deputy Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as speakers in educating children on the significance of riding yellow.
Luckily, for the sake of the eighty 1st graders in attendance, the event wasn’t just adults giving speeches; children participated in a Love the Bus poster contest, students applauded bus drivers in attendance, and many were more than eager to become bus drivers themselves someday.
The event really gives kids an opportunity to think about how essential the school bus is to their day. Engaging with children, parents, and federal officials at an event like this allows us to get our message out to a wider audience, and in our humble opinion, it was a rousing success.
Please feel free to use the Love the Bus resources on the ASBC site to get started on Loving the Bus in your community.
